Take a Deep Breath as Your Online Class Begins
So you’ve made a commitment to earn your degree, you’ve found the online program you feel is right for you. The first day of class has begun, and you feel anxious about doing your best. Just remember that most of your classmates feel just like you do!
Try Not To Fear the Unknown
The first thing you need to do is take a deep breath! Think back over the years and remember how you felt when you first began anything new – the first day of high school, the first day on a new job – it’s what we do. We feel a little overwhelmed and usually doubt our ability to do whatever it is we are undertaking. This is primarily because we fear the unknown.
Give Yourself Time to Adjust to the Online Classroom
Now, think back and remember how before long, whatever seemed new and different became just as easy as anything else you’d ever done. It’s the same way in the online classroom. When you log in to class for the first time, take some time to explore your student website. Check out all the tabs, locate your class materials, read the postings of your instructor and just begin at the beginning.
Make A Plan For Completing the First Week’s Activities
Evaluate what you need to do during the first week of class, get it on your calendar and dig in. Once you’ve read all of your instructions, if you have a question, your instructor has probably provided a way for you to post your questions so he or she can respond easily to provide assistance. Don’t go too far ahead on the first day; focus on what you need to do just to get started.
