Questions to Ask Yourself When Considering Online Education
Just as we each have our favorite colors, shoe styles and foods, we also favor one learning style over another. If it has been a long time since you were in the classroom, you may not have given much thought to your preferred learning style, but you surely have one.
How do you learn best?
Some of us prefer to listen to a lecture and take notes, others would rather see a video or presentation to retain the most information. Others need to see and touch to learn more effectively.
With the online learning revolution in full force, many people are considering this non-traditional path to earning a colleges degree. Are you a good candidate for the online classroom?
Important questions to ask yourself when you are considering signing up for an online class:
1. Do I have the self-discipline to get my work done on my own?
2. Am I comfortable enough with the technology I need for success?
3. Am I dedicated and able to participate in class daily or as often as required?
4. Do I have the self-motivation to work independently?
5. Am I willing to make the commitment to put in the extra hours each week?
If you can answer yes to these questions, it is very likely that you will do well in the online classroom. Just remember, when you first get started, you also have to give yourself time to get used to the online learning environment. Once you learn to navigate your online classroom, figure out when, where and how to post messages and assignments, you will be just fine!
