A Backup Technology Plan Is a Must in the Online Classroom
Taking an online course means you need to be prepared to turn in your assignments on time via the Internet! So one of the first things you need to do is make sure you can do that, even if you have issues with your own computer.
As an online instructor, I have to have a back up plan too. My students are expecting me to provide feedback, answer questions, and simply be available to them if they have questions.
So what would I do if my computer crashed? Heaven forbid, I live my life online and a technology issue is the last thing I want to contemplate, but you just never know. So I do have my own backup plan in place.
What should you do if your computer crashes?
You need to have a plan. Find a friend ahead of time and ask if he or she will allow you to come over should this happen.
Locate a library where you could go in case of emergencies.
Save Your Assignments to a Disc
If you do assignments ahead of time, consider downloading them on to a disc, so you could go to another computer and post your assignment in the proper place.
Natural Disasters
If you have a natural disaster such as a hurricane or snow storm, your university will probably be aware of this and inform the instructors regarding the situation in your region and you will be allowed extra time to get your assignments posted.
The main thing you need to do is contact your instructor by phone and let him or her know of your situation.
Contact Technical Support
If you can contact the technical support line offered through your college or university, you can get a ticket number which will validate your issue with your instructor. This can prove to be very beneficial for you in times of technological issues.
