Happy Business PeopleAre you keeping yourself in a dead-end job or career because you just don’t know what to do to get on a better path?

I have known so many people through the years who went to college, earned a degree, got a job after graduation and followed that up with years and years in a miserable career just waiting to reach retirement.

Why is change so difficult?

Was it because they thought they couldn’t do anything else? Was it because making a change into a new career would have required more education or training? Was it because of a lack of self-motivation to figure out how to make a change?

Of course, reasons and justification vary from one individual to another, but it’s a shame to waste your whole life doing something that isn’t fulfilling when there are so many other ways to use your knowledge and talent.

How do you overcome your own obstacles?

I ran across this article today by Curt Rosengren, 5 Self-Made Barriers Between You and Your Dream Career in US News and World Report, which I think is definitely worth reading if you’ve been wishing for a new career direction. It isn’t going to happen by itself, you know.

The article offers a great perspective on why individuals often fall into a career path and get stuck there. There is definitely hope that it’s never too late to make a remarkable change in your life.

How did you get where you are?

Figuring out where to begin and how you got there in the first place is worth a few minutes of your time, especially if you are serious about making a career change in the future!
