When Technical Issues Arise

All of us experience technical issues at some point if we use a computer. Whether at work or in the classroom, we all need technical support from time to time.
Some of us live on our computers, so when something goes wrong, it can be quite an ordeal! It’s easy to get really frustrated when the technology we depend on so heavily doesn’t perform as we expect it to.
Asking For Technical Support
Most companies have a technical support team or person to call on for assistance in resolving these issues as quickly as possible. Most online colleges have technical support in place to help students with their technical problems too.
One of the important things to know is who to call and what the process is for getting the attention you need. Remember to use your best communication skills when contacting technical support. Don’t take your frustration out on the person who is trying to help you. Some problems are more difficult to troubleshoot than others, so it’s a good idea to be patient with the person who is trying to provide assistance.
Know the Policies
Very often I have students who post messages telling me they couldn’t complete their assignment on time because of one technical issue or another. I always empathize with them, but the fact is, it’s not an excuse. The policy is simple; you need a backup plan for times when you have technical trouble.
Back Up Your Work
It’s a very smart idea to keep your work backed up either on a jump drive or a disc so you can take it to another computer and get your work posted on time. Late is late, regardless of the reason unless you make some type of arrangement with your instructor prior to the due date. Policies vary from one university to another, so knowing what the policy is beforehand can help you avoid even more frustration when technical issues arise.
