Participating In the Online Classroom Can Be Less Intimidating
One of the greatest advantages of the online classroom is that you can remain kind of anonymous. Your classmates and instructor know your name and what state you’re from, they know your time zone, but the only other information they know is what you share with the class.
For many online students, it has been a long time since high school and it can be quite intimidating to step back into the classroom setting; but stepping back into the classroom setting virtually rather than literally makes a big difference.
Which Option is Less Intimidating?
If you were sitting in a class where you could see every other students, would you be more intimidated to speak up and share your opinions than you are to sit at your computer, think about your ideas and then post them to the discussion forum. The answer seems pretty clear to me.
Time to Think Before You Respond
Having time to think and proofread your statements and answers before you put them out there for everyone else to see is one of the biggest advantages of all in the online class. In the traditional classroom, if your teacher calls on you to answer a question, you only have time to say what you think or look dumb because you didn’t read the assignment. So take advantage of the opportunity to make sure what you post lives up to college-level expectations. But don’t be intimidated – just be smart and use the time and tools you have available!
If you or someone you know is thinking about online education to earn a college degree or get certification in a particular area, Accredited-Online-Colleges.com is a great place to begin exploring your options.
