Learning to Work Smarter

Making Lists to Accomplish GoalsThough none of us seem to have enough time in a day or a week to do all we feel we need to accomplish, we still have tasks that must be completed sooner or later. They never seem to go away by themselves.

Making Lists Will Help

As I’ve mentioned before, I am a big proponent of lists and I know I am not alone here. Many people I know live by lists just like I do. I think without prioritizing, we can’t ever really get ahead in our work or our classes.

If you’re struggling with a certain aspect of your job or your studies, make a list of what you have to do and determine which elements will be easy to accomplish and those which will likely give you more trouble.

Decide What Needs to Be Done First

I prefer to work on the most difficult or time consuming tasks first and save the easier ones for last. Somehow this just feels more rewarding to me. You may work the opposite way, and that’s perfectly fine as long as you accomplish your goals.

Review Your Feedback

When it comes to assignments, don’t overlook the feedback you receive from your instructor. The grade is not the only thing that’s important, it’s also discovering what you did well and what needs further study or work.

If it’s a task at work, you can do the same thing. Once you’ve completed a task, take time to review how things turned out either through feedback from your supervisor or just by reviewing your process and outcomes. Simply completing a task is not enough because when it’s time to attack the next challenge, you want to work even smarter and get even better results.

Making a list of your process and determining whether you could have done things differently will help you to improve in the areas that seemed most difficult as you were working through your task – whether at work or school.
