Your Education, Your Way
E Learning, Distance Learning, Online Learning – call it whatever you choose, but the bottom line is it has become a very popular method for adults to earn a college degree. For many, it is the answer to reaching a life-long goal!
I just started a brand-new online class this week. I love the first week of class because the students are excited about getting started. They are nervous and anxious, but they are excited! For me, that is a great feeling – a fresh bunch of students anxious to learn.
My class is made up of all kinds of people. Many are military students, single moms, stay at home moms, dads, younger students who haven’t been out of high school so long and then adults who have put their college on hold for many years while they raise families and attended to the business of life. Each type of student has his or her own set of reasons for feeling anxious, but all of them have that feeling.
The best part is watching them get more and more confident with each day and week. Some will endure, but some will become frustrated and overwhelmed and drop out. I hate to see that happen, and I do everything I can to be encouraging so they will keep trying.
If Online Learning Works For You, Go For It!
Whatever your opinion is of online learning or earning a college degree online, if you could be me for one week in my classroom, you would know why I believe in it. If you could get to know my online students, you would gain an understanding that this is perhaps the only viable option available for many of them.
For those who are working to support themselves and their families, those in the military, those who are unemployed and refuse to give up, and those who simply choose the convenience of online learning as their method of study – I applaud you all and I hope you never give up reaching for your goals! Never let anyone pooh pooh on your choice to better your life – even if they don’t understand the option you’ve chosen!!
