online student Many people are finding it difficult to deal with the uncertainty in their workplace. A friend of mine recently lost his job due to the closing of the business for which he had worked for fifteen years.

Since the owner had been letting people go for the past several months and business was obviously slow, it did not come as a huge surprise for him. Regardless, losing one’s job is not a pleasant situation. The thing I admire most is his optimistic attitude about the future, though he isn’t sure in what direction he will go from here.

Pursue a New Career Path

Many of the students I teach have found themselves in similar situations. They have decided that rather than sit back and wait for the economy to come back around or sit idly by getting more depressed by the day at the difficulty of finding a new job, they have chosen to think positively and pursue a new career path.

For instance, I have quite a few students who have worked in various sectors for many years – health care, business, education – without having a degree. So even though they had jobs, they did not have much opportunity for career growth. They are getting back into school right now, working toward enhancing both their knowledge and their credentials. With this plan of action they will not only have experience in their fields, they will be better aligned with the education many employers are looking for when they are ready to hire.
