Food for Thought About Making New Year’s Resolutions

Make resolutions that you can keep.Have you started thinking about making New Year’s Resolutions yet? It has crossed my mind, but I haven’t made any specific decisions. Sometimes I don’t make resolutions at all and sometimes I make one simple one that I know I can keep. I don’t like setting myself up for failure, so I try not to be overly ambitious about New Year’s resolutions.

Keeping Resolutions

I read a really cool article the other day called 10 New Year’s Resolutions You Can Actually Keep and I was really impressed by the ideas conveyed. The primary message to me is that we can make resolutions that we can keep, and we can make resolutions that will not only be helpful to us as individuals, they can be the kinds of resolutions that can help others as well.

Good Advice

Reading the article made me think of a dear acquaintance of mine who was a home-town doctor and a very wise, caring person. He said that he always counseled his patients who were grieving or suffering from different types of depression to go out and help somebody else. He believed that the rewards of doing something good for another person would always make a person feel better. I think most of us could benefit from this advice on any given day.

Bountiful Resolutions

When I read this article, that’s what caught my attention the most – thinking about making resolutions that would be bountiful – not only for myself, but for others. I love being nice to people anyway, so that one’s easy. Other ideas such as doing your best at work, giving more affection and getting more sleep are all things we can do – all things that will help us and benefit other around us.
