These are the typical careers for individuals with an Economics degree, but they are not the only ones. The door is wide open to other possibilities.

While various roles in business are most common, graduates often have success in fields such as law, medicine, government, foreign relations, nonprofits, and academics. Many colleges, universities, and online education programs offer degrees in Economics.

Laying The Foundation For A Promising Future

A two-year degree program introduces students to economic principles and trends. More importantly, students learn how to analyze the trends. Someone who can analyze the trends will be an asset to employers and business owners, who expect sound judgment and decisions about business investments and financial planning.

Typical coursework for an Associate’s Degree includes the study of economic principles, financial accounting, business law, academic writing, microeconomics, globalization, and the world economy.

Completion of a two-year degree program enables the graduate to analyze the economy in any situation and determine the effects on business and finance. Understanding the effects of various events on the economy is a valuable skill any employer or business owner will appreciate in an employee.

If you or someone you know is thinking about online education to earn a college degree or get certification in a particular area, Accredited-Online-Colleges.com is a great place to begin exploring your options.

I have begun another online class this week. As I am getting to know my students through their bios, I find once again that I have many young moms who are “multitasking” very smartly to go back to college and stay at home with their little ones.

Dads Are Back in the Classroom Too

I once had a single dad who commented that everyone seems to make much ado about single moms and stay-at-home moms heading back to college online, but not much mention is made of dads. I will have to admit, he’s right; but from my experience in the online classroom, I can truthfully say there are plenty of dads who are back in school working hard to create a better future for their families.

Changing Trends

I have students of all ages in my online classes. It seems that more and more young people just out of high school are choosing the convenient route of online learning as well. In the last two courses I have had quite a few students under 21. This is a different trend than what I saw just a few years ago.

Whatever the age and whatever the circumstances, I am always proud to say that I play a small role in the lives of these determined individuals for a few weeks. For this short time I watch them work to improve their communication skills and gain just a little more confidence in their ability to achieve their goals as they strive to create a better life for themselves and their families.

Colleges and universities offer their online degree programs in various formats, but to provide the most optimal flexibility, they offer what is known as asynchronous learning, at least in part.

Most everyone who talks about online learning will mention the flexibility of scheduling, but what does that really mean?

Colleges and universities offer their online degree programs in various formats, but to provide the most optimal flexibility, they offer what is known as asynchronous learning, at least in part.

Asynchronous Learning Really Works

Asynchronous learning means that you do not have specific hours when you have to be on your computer to communicate with your instructor and classmates. Instead, you have discussion questions posted by your instructor which you can respond to at any time of the day or night.

Your classmates will be posting responses and comments to each other too. So a learning experience of various thoughts and perspectives are shared within the discussion forum. Your instructor will participate as well to keep the discussion moving forward and also to provide feedback and answers to any questions that may arise.

Meeting Assignment Deadlines is Important

You will likely have one or two assignments due every week. These are due by a specific deadline, but it remains flexible because you can turn your assignments in at any point as long as you meet the deadline.

To achieve in the online classroom, just as in a traditional class, you have to be committed to completing your assignments and participating in class; but the beauty of online learning is that you really can do this when it works best for you – before you go to work, after the kids are in bed, lying out on the beach with your laptop – whatever works, right?

Accredited Online Colleges is a great place to begin exploring your options. You will find online degrees in today’s most popular areas – technology, education, business, health care and many others.

Instructions and directions are meant to help us. I wonder why so many people have trouble with this aspect of life. What is it that gives individuals such a strong urge to jump into something with both hands and both feet without reading the important information that is offered to help them succeed?

Directions and Instructions Equal Good Advice

I like having some idea of what to expect before I decide to do something my own way – especially if it is unfamiliar territory. I equate directions and instructions to good advice. In most cases, if we at least take the time to see what something is all about, we have a better chance of doing a good job – whether it’s building a model airplane or creating an outline for an essay.

Reading and Following Directions is Key to Success

As an online instructor, I firmly believe that one of the major keys to success in the online classroom is to carefully read all instructions and directions in assignments. Once you’ve read them (and re-read them), if you are still in doubt about what to do, you can then go to your instructor with specific questions about what you don’t understand fully.

Learning to Ask Specific Questions

When you simply say, “I don’t understand,” it is difficult for someone to provide you with the help you need. But if you say, “I am having trouble with this specific part of the assignment. Are we to write two paragraphs of 250 words each, or are we to write two paragraphs for a total of 250 words?” Then your instructor can easily answer your question and offer you the advice you need.

Asking the right questions saves time, effort and frustration. Especially in the online setting, when you are communicating through messages and emails, it takes a lot more time to go back and forth several times. So the more specific you can be in asking your question, the sooner you will get the help you need.

Accredited-Online-Colleges.com offers a directory of hundreds of online degrees you can pursue in most any field you can imagine. The online programs offered by today’s colleges and universities are geared toward student success with the flexibility you need to incorporate study into your lifestyle.

At Work

At work, we usually bond with some of our co-workers and lean on them for support, encouragement and advice.

In the Online Classroom

It’s the same in the classroom, whether in a traditional setting or in the online environment. In my online classes, I often recognize when students enjoy communicating with each other and sometimes I can watch friendships building.

I think it is very important to reach out to others in the online classroom because sometimes students can get discouraged, feel overwhelmed or inadequate. What many students do not stop to think about is that others are often feeling the same way. So making an effort to support each other can be helpful for everyone.

Here are a few tips for making friends with others in your online classroom:

• When you introduce yourself to the class, throw in some personal things like hobbies, special interests, educational and personal goals.

• Reach out to classmates with whom you find something in common. Just a personal comment can often be the beginning of a friendship.

• Start a chat in the chat room to see if other students are interested in providing feedback on assignments and class projects. You may want to initiate a study group.

• Use a positive tone and be supportive of ideas and suggestions of other students, but be honest in offering help. Just telling each other that work or ideas are great will not be as beneficial as honest feedback offered with a positive tone.

If you’re considering an online degree, start by exploring the directory of online colleges and universities offering online degrees in today’s most sought after fields at Accredited-Online-Colleges.com.
