If you’ve ever been on a job interview, it’s likely that you’ve been asked to talk about your strengths and weaknesses. It can be a tough question if you’re not prepared for it.

Most of us can identify a few strengths, but are often unsure about how to state our weaknesses without appearing inadequate. So it is worth the time to consider your answer to this question just in case you are put on the spot.

Other Advantages to Identifying Strengths and Weaknesses

There are many other advantages to identifying strengths and weaknesses in different areas of our lives. Even in everyday life, knowing our strong attributes and identifying those we need to continue to work on and develop can make life much more worthwhile and enjoyable.

Benefits for Students to Pinpoint Weaknesses

As a student, identifying strong points and discovering weaker areas is almost a requirement for growth and development. Only when we figure out what we’re good at and where we need to improve can we become more confident and advance our knowledge and skills to the fullest extent.

Once we establish our strengths, we can move on to those areas that need our concentration and effort, devoting our time to what needs the most of it.

Have you stopped lately to think about what you’re doing well and what could use a little extra effort?

Is Making Friends in Class Important?

It’s good to make a connection with others who can encourage you when you are struggling or become someone with whom you brainstorm about various assignments and projects.

So… I had a message from a student today about not receiving any feedback from a classmate with whom she had been trying to communicate through the discussion forum.

After explaining that she had posted several comments to the classmate with no response, her question was whether to ignore it or pursue it with the other student.
My advice: don’t worry about it and move on.

It’s just the same in a traditional classroom. There are students you really like and want to get to know better and then there are those with whom you feel no connection. Even in a traditional classroom, just because you want to befriend someone in your class does not mean the other person will feel the same way.

I think much of the time students are simply focusing on their assignments and doing what they need to do to succeed rather than being too concerned about making friends. However, as a matter of respect, students should at least try to respond to each other’s posts and comments appropriately.

I also think it is important to make friends in the online classroom if possible. It’s good to make a connection with others who can encourage you when you are struggling or become someone with whom you brainstorm about various assignments and projects.

Do you think making friends in your college classes is important (whether online or traditional)? If you have an experience to share, I’d love to hear it.

One of the key elements to success in the online classroom is simply reading. You should read everything available to help you find your way in the beginning of an online course. Carefully read your syllabus, your calendar, and all posts your instructor makes available in the online classroom. Then read them again for clarity.

Read and Print Your Syllabus

Yes, you should print out your syllabus, but don’t just print it out and forget about the Main Forum where your instructor is sure to be posting helpful messages, reminders and assignments. Don’t miss out on any opportunity to get further information.

Read All Questions and Responses Posted by Others

Read questions posted by your classmates – you may find the answer to your question in the instructor’s response to another student. Also, make use of your classmates and the Chat Forum. You can always solicit help and ideas from your fellow classmates there.

Ask For Help When You Need It

Don’t hesitate to post questions to your instructor in the proper forum, but make sure you are really posting a question! Posting “I don’t understand what I am supposed to do” is not a question and does not provide your instructor with enough information to adequately help you. Make sure you have read and even re-read your assignment and tried to analyze it carefully before you post a frantic message stating that you don’t understand.

If you’re looking for a directory of Online Classes and Degree Programs, Accredited-Online-Colleges.com can help.
