This was a voluntary workshop which I needed to complete for my own benefit. So I signed up reluctantly thinking, “I don’t know how I can fit another thing into a 24 hour day.” But it turned out to be a very inspiring experience. Whew!

Sometimes, even if we think we don’t have time, taking a step to work with others in our field to gain new ideas and perspectives can be truly uplifting and provide us with a renewed sense of enthusiasm.

Completing this workshop made me realize a few important things:

1. There is always something new to learn from others.
2. You can fit more into your schedule than you think.
3. Investing a little extra time into what you do can be very rewarding.
4. Attitude is everything. Positive always works best!
5. The opportunity to share what you know can be inspiring too.

I came away from this workshop with a renewed sense of how important it is to keep an open mind and take advantage of the opportunities presented to us. An old friend of mind used to say about reading a book that even if you find just one thing of importance to take away with you, it was worth taking the time to read the book. I find that is true of other things as well, in this case, a workshop.

So the next time you have an “opportunity” to brush up on your skills or your boss tells you that you must attend a workshop or seminar, try approaching it with a positive attitude; it may turn out to be more worthwhile than you think.
