Bloomberg Releases List Of Top Earners In The United States

March 6th, 2014 by

In the current tough economic climate, it is often difficult to find a job. However, research shows that individuals with better qualifications are more likely to find well-paying jobs. Bloomberg recently came up with their own list of highly paid jobs. Their list followed a slightly different approach; they calculated the ratio of pay for the top ten percent of employees in a particular job category as well as the bottom ten percent.

They specifically excluded managerial jobs, categories with fewer than 10,000 jobs across the country, occupations with insufficient data and careers where the remuneration is $100,000 at the tenth percentile.

Their listing is based on data provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

1. Commodities, Securities and Financial Services Agents

People who think that sales agents do not make money are wrong. The top ten percent of employees working in this job category earn more than $159,276 per year, while the bottom ten percent earn less than $30,948. Compared to the median household income of $51,371 in 2012, this is certainly not a bad salary.

To become successful at selling something, it is important to know the product you are selling. An online financial planning degree might be all that is needed to get started in this highly lucrative industry.

2. Sports Competitors and Athletes

While it is no secret that sports stars can make a lot of money, it might be surprising to know that the top ten percent of them earn more than $94,504. In this industry, one has to be good to make a decent income because the bottom ten percent earn less than $20,708.

3. Real Estate Brokers

What sets apart real estate brokers from real estate agents is that the former can start their own business. On Bloomberg’s list, the top ten percent of real estate brokers earned more than $116,200 per annum, while the bottom ten percent came in at less than $26,548. According to data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there will be job growth of eleven percent in this industry between 2012 and 2022.
